HistoryWired
Here is my last post for the evening. I’ve already discussed museums and taxonomy. This website from the Smithsonian wraps up both thoughts:
Welcome to the Smithsonian Institution’s HistoryWired: A few of our favorite things. This experimental site introduces visitors to some of the three million objects held by the National Museum of American History, Behring Center.

I find the attempts to create visual representations of complex collections very interesting, and this one has some cool ideas. They don’t say whether the display is dynamically generated, but its based on the Smartmoney Map of the Market technology, so my guess is that it is. Which would indicate that as items are added to the collection they would be available through this tool.
At some point, someone is going to develop a visual display tool that revolutionizes the way we see the Internet and work with big data sets. I don’t think anyone has hit it yet, but its fun to see what people come up with.
