Sony DRM debacle
This whole digital rights management thing is a giant hassle. AND for my money the music companies continue to shoot themselves in the foot. After getting the new Foo Fighters Album last spring and discovering (too late) that I couldn’t put it on my iPod I’ve been doubly cautious about buying music CDs. Just the other day someone asked my why I don’t have the new Dave Mathews album, and you know why? It has the same copy protection as the Foo Fighters. I’m not making that mistake again!
Now we’ve got Sony punishing its listeners! Guess why I don’t have the new Neil Diamond album — once again its a botched copy scheme. In fact I’m not buying any Sony albums these days — why take a chance?
So if anyone from the music industry is paying attention THIS is why CD sales are down. Punish your audience and they’ll look for alternatives. Podcasts, indie labels, CD Baby, etc. There are plenty of safe and legal alternatives.
