Firefox Trouble

Readers of this blog know that I am a very enthusiastic Firefox user.  But I’ve also experienced some issue with the latest version freezing and other funky stuff.  This recent article from Information Week at least confirms that I’m not crazy:

InformationWeek | Firefox 1.5 | The Trouble With Firefox | January 2, 2006

I did discover that some early Firefox 1.5 upgrade issues were due to some older extensions, and once I removed the old ones and updated all the rest the big problems went away.  But the article does mention some pretty serious memory issues, and suggest a tweak to the about:config file to help tame these.  I changes the setting and hopefully it will help.

Now don’t get me wrong, overall this program is GREAT!  And frankly, maybe my expectations are low, but it never shocks me when a piece of software freezes on occasion — they all do it.  My recent experiences since I tweaked things are good.  And I ran a standard upgrade on my home machine, with  no extensions, and its been fine.  And I bet some of the problems that people in the article are experiencing are due to web sites with IE specific coding or otherwise non-standard stuff.  If you don’t have Firefox, get it.  But criticism is good, and I’m sure will help the improvements in future versions.

Digg!
