Getting Organized
Boy, I think I’m getting to the end of a very busy stretch. At home both boys are heavily into the soccer season — its been fun, but when it winds down next weekend I’m appreciate the break. I’ve also been finishing up my final project for the completion of my Instructional Design masters program. The project is one I’ve blogged about here before, an audio archive site created with Drupal. Unfortunately things have been so busy at YSD that I haven’t had as much time as I’d like to actually work on implementing this project. I’ve got a rough, proof-of-concept site going, but nothing really to show yet.
And of course when things get crazy I always get fragmented and don’t put in the planning for projects that is really needed. This post from Garrett Dimon’s wonderful blog is just the type of reminder that I need. For my own projects I like to diagram things out in a rough sketch. The process of organizing the visual elements helps me think through how the various elements will work. I use Visio for these diagrams, which is great. But sometimes the process of trying to get the shapes correct and deal with visual complexities takes my attention away from the actual task at hand. In those cases just jotting down ideas is the way to go.
