Designing for Web 2.0
This looks like an interesting talk — how does the interactive web 2.0 environment alter the design process — at least I think this is what he’s getting at. The included Powerpoint is excellent, but without his narration I’m not sure I’m getting everything — where’s the PodCast?
Functioning Form - Web 2.0 Expo: Designing for Web 2.0
One of the slides compares a traditional, hierarchical web site map to an emergent network model. I find myself thinking of web sites in a way closer to the emergent network. On the very micro level you still see small collection of hierarchies, but the farther you pull back the more open and emergent the design becomes.
Traditionally a big organization has a big, organized web site map — but I’m not so sure that makes sense anymore. It takes a while to plan it, its tough to change quickly to meet changing conditions and its expensive to set up (in time, money) and to maintain. Spend your time establishing some patterns and focus on many small, quick, inexpensive nodes that fit into flexible, constantly changing matrix.
