RSS Thinking
This morning I missed the train. So, as I sat in the coffee shop waiting for the next train I started wondering if I could get train schedules through my blackberry browser. You see I wasn’t late, but the victim of a typo on my pocket timetable. And the truth is I couldn’t find anything really useful. With some dedicated searching I could find times, but so poorly laid out that someone not familar with trains would be confused. Their audience is mobile, and I bet there is a high mobile device concentration. So what’s up?
That got me thinking about web design and web apps in general. Why not only produce content in valid RSS format? Then have a home page that is an RSS renderer, which looks at what kind of device it is and delivers the content in the appropriate format. Most blogs (like wordpress) already do something like that already, and it works pretty well. Time for the rest of the world, especially us web designers to catch up.
