Met Museum Blog Mode

We visited the physical Blog Mode exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC today. The exhibit itself is nice, with some really gorgeous fashion. Technically the exhibit was kind of dark, and some of the labels were in shadow and therefore hard to read. It would have also been nice to be able to see more of the items in a 360 view. But very much worth a visit.

It’ll be interesting to see how the blogging goes. The blog stations are all in one central area. I’m not sure how else you’d arrange them, but I’d prefer to be seeing the work in question when commenting, instead of its image. I think a cell phone — text message type of posting service, or even a speech-to-text service would be interesting — but that would require the Met to encourage cell phone use in the exhibit, which is prohibited in other exhibit areas. Might be a bit of a culture clash.

I also worry that over time the comments will be in such a piecemeal fashion that viewers will have trouble finding any common themes. If the comment window included the option to add keywords that could allow viewers to pull groups of comments around a central theme. Right now you just see comments around one item of the exhibit — interesting but one dimensional. It might also be neat if a couple of experts blogged through the course of the exhibit, and then viewers could see all their comments together.

Anyhow visit the blog, go see the exhibit and join the discussion!
