Who has time for Social Media
I say AMEN to this blog post at ReadWriteWeb. I barely have time to keep up with the live social contacts in my life, let alone manage a virtual life! Sure I’ve got a FaceBook account, but I keep it mostly to keep up with the technology (and to prove to my kids that I’m ‘with it’!) I rarely ever check it except when I get the occasional friend request. I’m quite happy at the moment as a mostly passive consumer of RSS feeds and podcasts.
With any new technology its important to remember that there will always be a small group of passionate first-adopters. But wider acceptance only comes after the technology is mature AND offers something that displaces some existing technology. Most people aren’t looking to add more ‘to-dos’ to their day. The new thing needs to be so good that it convinces them to abandon something else.
Real People Don’t Have Time for Social Media - ReadWriteWeb
Let’s be honest here: we’re all a bunch of social media addicts. We’re junkies. Whether it’s a new Twitter app, a new Facebook feature, or a new social anything service, we’re all over it. But we may not be the norm. The truth is, being involved in social media takes time, something that most people don’t have a lot of. So how can regular folk get involved with social media? And how much time does it really take?
