SharePoint best practices
I’ve seen some pretty interesting examples of internal web sites powered with SharePoint. And with the increased integration with the new Office, as well as the addition of Wiki and other interactive tools, there is a lot in there. But I think like a lot of new technologies, there is a lot more to adoption than just installing the server and offering people workspaces.
When something new drops into the workplace it must be recognized that during the implementation process people will still need to maintain old systems AND experiment/setup and maintain the new system. It is sort of a catch 22 where you can’t migrate until you’ve experimented and tested on the new system, but you don’t have time to do that until you migrate off the old system! This article from Internet Evolution makes some good points including:
- Think big, start small
- Get dedicated resources
- Be clear about who does what
- Document Standards
- Look for 3rd party resouces
