Delicious redesign

It may be time for me to start using delicious again. They’ve just launched a big site redesign, which at first glance looks very good. I also didn’t realize they were now owned by Yahoo (since 2005) — and I think Yahoo does a very good job with its web apps (i.e. flickr ). The site was also a regular theme in David Weinberger’s new book, Everything is Miscellaneous, which I just finished reading. I’ll write more about the book in a future post (in short it has some good ideas and is worth picking up).

SharePoint Examples

Here is post with a boat-load of 3rd party app/plug-ins that work with SharePoint, allowing all sorts of social networking types of activities. Here is one example from from on my favorite companies, NewsGator: ” Social Sites 2.0 — This tool brings new social capabilities to SharePoint Server 2007
including community pages, which are ad hoc communities formed around
projects, interests, or locations, and social networking capabilities
that let employees better collaborate and share knowledge.”

SharePoint best practices

I’ve seen some pretty interesting examples of internal web sites powered with SharePoint. And with the increased integration with the new Office, as well as the addition of Wiki and other interactive tools, there is a lot in there. But I think like a lot of new technologies, there is a lot more to adoption than just installing the server and offering people workspaces.

Footer gallery

I always think of page footers as a place to hide boilerplate, like the copyright notice.  But as this gallery demonstrates, creative people can make it a much more interesting content area!

Inspiring WordPress site designs

Perusing a design inspiration site, I came across this gallery of WordPress driven sites.  I’m currently working with a partner on a WordPress driven site and this site offers plenty of good ideas.  Check out the University of Colorado/Boulder site.  At first glance I didn’t believe it was WordPress driven, but a little digging around confirmed it really is.  This is the type of site that reveals how powerful a tool WordPress can be, and how far from the typical blog look you can get.  For a personal site SEGD is also a refreshing change.
