So I bought Dane-Elec’s Zpen. But this isn’t the only option. Livescribe’s pen is finally out, What Is cool: It captures audio while you take notes, Later you can tap next a note a hear what was being said at that moment, Sounds perfect for a college student. The downside is you can’t convert your notes into text - and it uses special paper. And it has a web-side community component that felt to me like an attempt to look you in, Maybe this works for some, but the lack of character recognition is a deal breaker for me. It you are engaged in conducting user interviews, as in a usability test situation, it might be a good match.

After thinking about it, researching it, and, frankly, fretting about it, I purchased a digital pen, the ZPen, from Dane-Elec. And while it is not perfect, I am very satisfied. And for the right situation I even recommend it.

I’ve seen a couple of articles over the last week, questioning the future of email. But for all its faults it just works so darn well. It doesn’t matter what email client you use, or what email server software your service provider uses, if I send an email mail I am pretty confident that it will reach the intended recipient. It works on all types of computers and mobile devices. Even instant messaging, which has been around for a while, can’t claim this interoperability. So email isn’t going anywhere quickly!

As the number of posts in this blog grow (over 500 since December 2004!) I’ve struggled with how best to make the site content accessible. My personal style is a little eclectic, with posts appearing when the mood strikes, written about what interests me at that moment. So the standard monthly archive sidebar element does not seem very helpful.

I just made the update to 2.5, and it looks like 2.6 is right around the corner. The update to 2.5+ is pretty big, with database changes and a bunch of other stuff. But in normal WordPress fashion the actual update process is painless. I use a lot of plug-ins, and had been holding off in fear that some would get broken in the update — but all was good.
