It was kind of fun back in the early days of the web when most websites were really handled by one webmaster. These days websites have grown so big you really need a team in place to effectively manage it. I recognize the need to use teams for technology projects, and embrace this change. But working with a team really changes things, both for the better, and for the worse. Its kind of like the idea of a benevolent dictator — if they’re really good their subjects will be pretty happy.

We were on Andy’s boat on Block Island when the news of the attacks first hit. In the cab on the way to the ferry we heard a quick bit about increased security in NYC and all panicked. Andy was at 1 Chase Plaza, in the shadow of the WTC when the 9/11 attacks occurred. After the mometary relief when we realized that there was not a new NYC attack the dismay and horror was not dimished just because these attacks were in another country. London feels as close as Madrid or NYC.

I’ve been travelling over the last week and have had a chance to visit with a number of family and friends. It’s nice to get away! But now back to work work and school work.
In response to the regular, catch-up-type question “what’s new with you” I’ve been talking to people about my blog, and asking about their blogging experiences. And basically I get blank stares. For the most part people have heard of blogs, but not RSS or podcasting. And the general feeling, politely expressed, is they don’t see the need, and don’t have the time to get started as participants in the blogosphere.
