Learning Languages the Web 2.0 way

How’s this for a social learning community application?  In addition to the web-based learning tools you are encouraged to interact with other members to learn a new language.  Talk to others in your ‘class’ — but even better link up with native speakers trying to learn your language.  Virtual language immersion.  Maybe a trip to Paris is a little more exotic (I picked french) but not quite as convenient.

Small business websites

New York Times today (2-14) business section reports only 36 percent of businesses with under 100 employees have websites. I bet they all use e-mail. It’s not that big a leap from that to a site built in Wordpress - not just blogging software but a true content publishing system.

Twitter twitch

The 2-14 NYTs’ style has a great real life story if one mom”s effort to get her family using twitter. Haven”t caught the twitter buzz yet? Where have you been? Anyhow she gives it a try, they all humor for a while, and eventually tell her she needs to get out more. And without twittering about it.

A new issue tracker

Garrett Dimon’s blog is one of my regular feed-reads.  He’s currently in the process of building an open-source issue tracking system, and blogging about the process.  He just launched the new company, with the requisite website and logo.  The screen shots and descriptions of the work in process sound very promising.  I’ve been looking for an issue tracker for our department, and there’s a lot of crap out there.  I’ve been running a trial of webAsyst for the last week and it look promising.  But somehow what Garrett is working on looks so clean, simple and well thought out, it seems like exactly what I’m looking for.  Hopefully he’ll have something released soon!
