Here is a very complete case study of a student computer lab redesign at Carnegie Mellon. The finished product is very nice, an 827 square foot space with a budget of $185,000 NOT including computers. I wish we had a budget half that large for our computer lab. On particular interest here is the very complete surveys they did with the students using the space. Lessons learned — the big flashy stuff (like the large, rotating LCD screen) isn’t always the stuff people really use.
