• Google News Blog: Bringing Living Stories to WordPress

    Living Stories is an interesting new tool from Google.  Coupled with the WordPress plugin it will allow the creation of a site centered around a particular news story.  You can run the code without WordPress, but as with most things WordPress it makes setup much easier.  The tool provides a running stream of news articles on the story.  It also provides summaries and provides nice features such as auto-collapsing stories you’ve already seen.

  • Learning is hard work

    The photo here is nothing more than a group of 12 light emitting diodes (LED) wired together and being controlled by an Arduino controller. The wiring is an example of Charlieplexing — who knew that was even a word? This is a project I’m working on as part of a physical computing workshop I’ve been participating in for the last couple of weeks. And this simple experiment represents 4 or 5 hours worth of my time!

  • Thoughts on Digital Natives

    A while back the PBS Frontline series ran a special entitled Digital Natives.  If, like me, you missed it you can view the program streamed off their web site.  And it is well worth the time.  It starts out sort of feeling like a standard case of adult worrying that the new generation is somehow headed to ruin because they don’t appreciate the values adults consider important.  But the program is more than that, so stick it out through the end.
