BigWords is a site and iPhone app that source a slew of online retailers to get students the cheapest possible textbooks, taking the legwork out of online comparison shopping. Students (or textbook-shopping parents and guardians) can also share “bookbags” with others, and the site claims an average $225 savings on multi-item orders.

CourseSmart has started offering complete versions of paper textbooks for Apple iPhones and iPod Touches for free (in one sense). It’s a great idea, but the implementation needs to evolve.

A company called Sweb Apps has just launched a new service which lets anyone build iPhone apps, even if you don’t have a technical background… Next year, the company also plans to launch app builders for other mobile platforms including Android, Blackberry, and Palm Pre.
