• Interface Mockup tool

Visualizations are really essential for application design.  Flow charts and wireframe mockups in Visio work well, but I’ve never found a tool for mocking up the actual interface.  Visio isn’t flexible enough, and something like Illustrator takes too long.  Balsamiq, only in production for less than a year, offers a very well executed bit of software to fill in the gap.  Balsamiq offer a selection of objects targeted for user interfaces, streamlining your work.  Check out their samples page to get a better idea of the types of objects available.

Especially interesting is that it comes in a web version — great for collaboration — as well as a desktop version for offline use.  There are also plug-in versions for the Jira project management software and Confluence wiki (both from Atlassian.)

We know it: most people prefer to use pen and paper or a whiteboard to make software mockups because “it’s the fastest way”.

Well, if you count the time it takes to transfer the mockup from paper to a digital image, we think Balsamiq Mockups is faster, not to mention much easier and, dare we say it, more fun!

Balsamiq, a Mockup Creator in AIR, is on Fire – ReadWriteWeb

Balsamiq, an application mockup creation tool built on Adobe AIR, has generated more than $10,000 in revenue less than 6 weeks after the $79 tool launched. The one-man company was profitable within 3 weeks after launch and the application itself is quite remarkable.
