• Classroom ‘Fair Use’ blog

In my own experiences, the discussion of copyright, fair use, and the impact of digital technologies is a hot topic for a university campus. Students and faculty have a lot of questions, and seem eager to engage in discussion on the topic. This fair use blog has some great stuff in it, and if the class is half as interesting as the blog, those are some lucky students.

I am a little confused on the comment about the blog promoting discussion. At least on the blog the posts all seem to be from the same person, who I guess is the professor. And the posts I saw have few if any comments. Perhaps it helps feed lively class discussion, which make perfect sense. I have found that students — who post incessantly on Facebook — seem reluctant to post comments on class blogs. But that a rich set of material can help feed classroom discussion.

“Of all the things I’ve tried, the blog has been the most successful in promoting discussion,” Mr. Friedman told the Chronicle. “It’s certainly especially suited to fair-use discussions, since we can post videos.”
