Did a little research on e-book readers in the Blackberry App store, but didn’t find much promising there. A Google search turned up this recent release from eBooks. Seeing as they are linked to Barnes & Noble I figured there would be a pretty deep selection, and so downloaded the app, signed up, and bought a copy of an Asimov book for $.69. I figured there’s no need to spend too much on an experiment — what with the economy and all.
Download the reader directly to you phone from here: www.ereader.com/bb-beta.xjad). There are two similar sites — Fictionwise and ereader, both similar (ereader references using Fictionwise technology) but they have separate sign-ons and are different stores. Once i got the correct ereader client and bought books from the correct store all worked fine.
I got a short Asimov story and the reader came with H.G. Wells’ Time Traveler already downloads. The reader works fine, and it is quite convenient on the train. But as compared to reading an actual book I found it very unsatisfying. Also no way to make notes on a book through the application. I will probably use it from time-to-time for convenience, but I don’t see it becoming a daily use for me. Guess I gotta save up for a Kindle…
