So where should you be for business social networking? I’ve been noticing more people on Linkein lately, although Facebook is also big. The really boring thing with all this cool social networking stuff is why should I have to pick? Why can’t I just take the best features of all and seamlessly build them into a custom application that is all my own?
Facebook is making that a little easier through its new applications. For instance I have linked in my Flickr photos to be shared on my Facebook account. I also have Flickr accessible through this blog site. And while there seems to be a little bit of a rivalry going on between Linkedin and Facebook, I can now view my LinkedIn contacts when in Facebook. I can also display my LinkedIn profile on my blog.
So if you are clever at building things together yourself you can start to approximate this ‘one site to rule them all’ kind of thing. New web 2.0-social type applications would seem to benefit most from open APIs and easy ways for users to link in and pull content into their existing memberships (i.e. Facebook) or sites.
