Well, the constant stream of hype surrounding twitter has become too persuasive, and I’ve succumbed. I created an account a couple of months back but after a frustrating start lost interest. Yesterday, with a quiet day at home I took the time to figure out how to really get started. To my surprise my account already had a couple of followers — two family members, two at work and some other folks I don’t know — cool.
I wanted to be able to tweet from my mobile phone — that is actually what held me up last time. The computer interface itself is really easy, but also requires you keep a browser window open to your account. And very little interesting every happens when I am in front of a computer. I know you can set up text messaging, but I wanted something better. After ready reviews of on Crackberry I settled on Twibble. Works pretty good, so I am off and running. So far I am following 11 people — including Al Gore and Zefrank. Is this worth the time? Is it just another needless distraction? David Pogue has found it to be useful (I now follow him!) — maybe I will too.

…something about Twitter creates trust and togetherness; some of my actors drove over an hour to a place they’d never been, responding to a 140-character request from a person they’d never met. No other technology, online or off, would have resolved my quest so satisfactorily.
