Two of the speakers at the February 2, 2009 WordCamp Ed NorthEast have projects in the news. Bob Stein and Future of the Book, is involved in an on line book discussion project. That starts up on November 10, and should be interesting to watch. Zotero, an open source project out of George Mason University’s Center for History and New Media (CHNM), was recently sued by the makers of EndNote. The claim is that EndNote was reversed engineered and use to create Zotero. GMU has released an official statement, is not renewing their EndNote license, and will continue with Zotero development. Dave Lester from CHNM is one of our speakers, and is also organizing the first WordCamp ED DC, coming up on November 22.
Doris Lessing’s The Golden Notebook
On November 10th, The Institute for the Future of the Book kicks off an experiment in close reading. Seven women will read Doris Lessing’s The Golden Notebook and carry on a conversation in the margins.
Zotero: The Next-Generation Research Tool » Blog Archive » Official Statement
The Thomson Reuters Corporation has sued the Commonwealth of Virginia over Zotero, a project based at George Mason University’s Center for History and New Media (CHNM). A free and open-source software initiative, Zotero aims to create the world’s best research tool and has already been adopted by hundreds of thousands of users at countless colleges and research universities. CHNM announces that it has re-released the full functionality of Zotero 1.5 Sync Preview to its users and the open source community.
