Great advice from writer and blogger Cory Doctorow. If you want to write just do it by keeping distractions to a minimum. Set aside time for writing and only writing — not researching, formatting text, waiting for the mood to strike, or checking IM/email/Skype/Twitter/etc. And then go do all that other stuff. Like reading Doctorow’s latest book, Little Brother!

I think I’ve managed to balance things out through a few simple techniques that I’ve been refining for years. I still sometimes feel frazzled and info-whelmed, but that’s rare. Most of the time, I’m on top of my workload and my muse. Here’s how I do it:
