• WordPress Single and MU to merge

    The code base for WordPress MU and single user are to merge — good or bad?  It will be nice for larger/institutional users to have it all in an easy all-in-one package.  And having just put the finishing touches on our own MU site for the department, with support for multiple domains/CAS login and other goodies, it would be nice to have the two versions more in sync.  But from the standpoint of a creator of many single-user sites I wouldn’t like to see a lot of extra overhead for MU complicate the admin setup/maintenance for the single user/single blog needs.

  • 2nd WordPress NorthEast workshop coming spring ’10

    Great news!  The 2nd WordPress higher education workshop is coming spring 2010 — working title is WordPress University with the tentative date April 8.  Once again the sponsor is Nercomp and this will be part of the SIG series of workshops.  More details to come in the Fall.  I welcome any and all ideas for speakers, topics, or activities.  At the moment the days schedule is wide open, and we all know that collaboration generates the best results — be part of the fun!

  • WordCamp Ed: Northeast Speaker Presentations

    Here is the follow-up information from the event I organized back in February — WordCamp ED: Northeast. This was all posted on the wordcamped.org wiki, but there was a spam attack, we had to restore a past version, restored the wrong past version, the site was locked down, and now I can’t get back into it to fix it.   • Horizon report — mobile is IT

    The new Horizon Report is out, and mobile technologies are at the top of the ‘technologies to watch’ list.  Sure desktops/laptops still have their place, and will continue for years to come.  But for communication/collaboration technologies, where most of the real innovation is happening these days, mobile is the platform of choice.  Even now a student with an iPhone has little need to lug a laptop around with them — and in a couple of years that will become a given.
