OpenSolairs 2008.11 is running great on my Latitude D620 these days. And the coming improvements for 2009.06 sound great. Despite the rocky times at Sun in recent months it is comforting to see development work hasn’t been derailed.
On Sunday I committed changes into Nevada build 110 (and hence, into OpenSolaris 2009.next) to improve the speed at which OpenSolaris systems shutdown. On a generic x86 test system, it used to take about 41 seconds to shut the system down starting from the time you typed init 6, shutdown(1m), or pressed the shutdown button in GNOME.
New Time Slider features coming up in OpenSolaris 2009.06 : Erwann Chénedé’s Weblog
We’ve made a number of enhancements for Time Slide in OpenSolaris 2009.06.
Under the hood nautilus visualization is now fully multithreaded. This means that you can now browse directories with more than 4000 snapshots without noticeable slowdown (That’s more than 3000 years of snapshots if you use the default timeslider snapshot schedule !).On the visualization side, the interface has been polished and we’ve added the possibility to manually snapshot a directory (either by right-clicking on a directory and selecting the “snapshot now” menu item or in time slider mode by clicking on the camera icon).
[Phoronix] An Early Look At OpenSolaris 2009.06
This week marked the release of Solaris Express Community Edition Build 110 and the crew at Genunix are hosting a new preview build of OpenSolaris 2009.06 atop this latest build, which we decided to try out this evening and have provided a few screenshots.
